What to expect when you ship from the foothills
Batesville is one of the oldest towns in Arkansas, set where the White River leaves the Ozarks. It is also about 40 miles from the nearest interstate. I-57 passes through Bald Knob to the south and Newport to the southeast, and US 167 ties Batesville to it.
We would sooner tell you plainly what that means. Carriers do not pass through Batesville on the way to somewhere else. A truck has to plan a trip up, so a pickup commonly takes several days to a week to arrange, and the price per mile is higher than in a city on the freeway. The runs are often made by smaller three- and four-car trailers that handle the highways here more easily. With realistic dates, it all goes smoothly.
Meeting the truck at I-57
If time matters more to you than convenience, you can hand the car over in Bald Knob or Newport, each 30 to 40 minutes away. Far more trucks use I-57 than come up US 167, and a meeting there can cut days off the wait. You will need a ride home.
To see what it saves, run the quote twice: once with Batesville’s ZIP code, 72501, and once with Newport’s, 72112, or Bald Knob’s, 72010.
Loading in Batesville and Southside
- Harrison Street and St. Louis Street. The commercial strips have wide lanes and big lots, and most handoffs happen along them.
- Main Street. The restored downtown was narrowed into a winding single lane with angled parking. It is pleasant on foot and impossible in a car hauler.
- The hills. Neighborhoods north and west of downtown climb quickly, and the driver will ask you to come down to a level street.
- Southside. Across the river bridge on US 167, the highway frontage has room for a truck to pull off.
- Lyon College. The campus on the northeast side brings students from other states and from overseas. They usually meet the driver at a lot near the campus entrance.
We also serve Cave City, Newark, Pleasant Plains, and Sulphur Rock, and with more lead time Mountain View, Melbourne, Heber Springs, and Cherokee Village.
The hospital, the plants, and new hires
Batesville is a working town as well as a pretty one. The regional medical center, the poultry processors, and manufacturers such as the mower plant recruit nurses, managers, and engineers from outside the area. If you are coming for a job, ship the car a week before you need it, not a few days, and ask your new employer whether relocation help covers it.
Retirees moving to the hills and lakes
North-central Arkansas has drawn retirees from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan for decades, to Cherokee Village, Horseshoe Bend, Mountain View, and the shores of Greers Ferry Lake. Most fly down, let the movers bring the furniture, and have the car follow.
Two local problems are worth planning for. GPS is unreliable in the hollows, so give the driver directions by landmark, not only an address. And mobile coverage is patchy. If your phone has no signal at the house, agree on a meeting place and time in town beforehand, or give us a landline. In winter, ice on the hill roads can push a delivery back a day.
Project cars, farm trucks, and barn finds
Old vehicles turn up in the Ozarks in barns, sheds, and pastures, and the buyers who find them online are often far away. A non-running vehicle can be shipped if it rolls, steers, and has tires that hold air. If it has been sitting in a field, have it moved to firm ground beside a road before the carrier comes, because a car hauler cannot drive across a pasture to reach it. Tell us honestly what works and what does not, so the driver brings the right gear.
This is racing country too. Mark Martin grew up here, and the dirt track outside town still runs on summer weekends. Race cars sit low and usually need an enclosed trailer, so call the office about those.

Batesville car shipping questions
How long will it take to get a truck to Batesville?
Usually several days, and up to a week in a slow period. Carriers wait until they have a reason to come this way. The more flexible your first available date, the sooner one fits you in.
Do you pick up in Mountain View or Cave City?
Yes. Cave City is a short hop up US 167. Mountain View is 40 miles of winding road, so some customers bring the car to Batesville to save time.
Can a Lyon College student ship a car from out of state?
Yes. A student aged 18 or older can receive it alone. Book early for August, when the few carriers that serve the area fill up.
What if the roads are icy on pickup day?
The driver will reschedule. No one wants a loaded trailer on a frozen hill, and a day’s delay is the normal outcome.
Can you deliver to a cabin on the White River?
To the nearest paved, level spot. River roads are narrow and some flood, so the driver will meet you in town or on the highway and you take the car the rest of the way.
Is it worth taking the car to Little Rock instead?
Rarely. Newport and Bald Knob give you most of the benefit for a third of the drive. Little Rock makes sense only if you are heading there anyway.
